Having spent 10 years in a successful marketing career Karen Dell'Armi took a career break to raise Having spent 10 years in a successful marketing career Karen Dell’Armi took a career break to raise her two boys & did a lot of soul searching, finding a jewellery course locally she enrolled and Karen Dell’Armi was like a kid in a sweetshop, she’d found her true vocation at last!
Karen Dell’Armi takes her inspiration from everyday emotions – the ups & downs of day to day life. Karen loves the challenge of representing intangible feelings in a 3d tangible form. She also loves creating really tactile, organic surface patterns by a variety of methods such as reticulation, milling, planishing, oxidisation. Karen also loves architectural shape and form – dramatic, strong lines, 3d structures that have a huge impact. Karen Dell’Armi also loves the simplicity and elegance of clean lines, simple geometric shapes and patterns.
Salford based Charlotte Verity is a designer-maker of contemporary art jewellery, specialising in silver smithing and small scale hot glass techniques.
Her current collection combines hollow, blown glass bubbles with sterling silver multilink chains and finger rings.
With regards to this ‘Bubble’ collection, each glass bubble is blown individually, by hand, using a gas torch. The bubbles are sealed and may then be painted with a lustre and fired to leave a layer of precious metal, either Gold or Platinum, or a transparent colour, permanently adhered to the surface. Lastly, all the bubbles are annealed in a digital kiln to ensure strength and durability. The silver elements of each piece are soldered for security, and are then polished to a high shine, given a matte finish, or oxidised to dramatically darken the silver. These pieces are produced in limited numbers, and no two pieces will ever be identical.
